  2. 24, relative atomic mass 52.01. It is a
  3. bluish-white metal capable of taking a high
  4. polish, and with a high melting-point. It is
  5. used decoratively and, alloyed with nickel,
  6. for electrical heating wires. Resistant to
  7. abrasion and corrosion, it is used to harden
  8. steel, and is a constituent of stainless
  9. steel and many other useful alloys. It is
  10. used extensively in chromium plating and as a
  11. catalyst. Compounds include sodium and
  12. potassium chromates and dichromates (for
  13. tanning leather), and potassium and ammonium
  14. chrome alums. It occurs chiefly as
  15. chrome-iron ore. The USSR, Zimbabwe, and
  16. Brazil are sources.
